Aside from all unfinished class work the students must complete the following homework schedule every week.

 

  • Monday- Finish the definitions for vocabulary and study them all week long.
  • Tuesday- Reread the story with the children and do attached questions orally**.
  • Wednesday- Identify the main characters, setting, problem and solution on paper.
  • Thursday- Write a paragraph summarizing the story. (At least eight sentences.)
  • Friday- Reading common assessments
  • Students must clip out magazine articles and paste them to a folded construction paper and write a brief summary underneath.

* Vocabulary words are Challenge words listed below in Spelling Section.*

**Reading Questions to be done orally**

  1. Who is the author of the story?
  2. Who is the illustrator?
  3. Who is/ are the main character(s)?
  4. Who are the supporting characters?
  5. Where did the story take place?
  6. How much time passed throughout the story?
  7. What is/are the problem(s) the character(s) face(s)?
  8. How did the character(s) solve the problem?
  9. How do you think the character felt during the story?
  10. What do you think would have done if it had been you?
  11. What happened in the beginning?
  12. What happened in the middle?
  13. What happened in the end?
  14. Do you like the story? Why or why not?
  15. How would you have changed the story to make it better
