Function:  Parental involvement is defined by NCLB as participation of parents in regular, two-way, meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities.

NCLB is bult on four common-sense pillars:

• Increased accountability for relults
• An emphasis on doing what works based upon scientific research
• Expanded parental options
• Expanded local control and flexibility

The intent of NCLB's "expanded parental options" is to assist in their child's learning, to be actively involved, and to be full partners in the education of their children.

                                                  Mensaje Para los padres

  Como el primer maestro de sus hijos, usted tiene mucha importancia. Desde luego que usted no solamente prepara a sus hijos para el estudio(puesto que 50% del desarrollo intellectual de un niño ocurre antes de cumplir los cuatro años de edad), sino que también tiene que sostener el interés de sus hijos en el desarrollo

del otro 50% de sus habilidades intelectuales.  Así es que tenemos que encargarnos de las necesidades intelecuales y educacionales de nuestros hijos en el mismo sentido en que nos encargamos de su necesidades físicas y básicas.

 Como padres de familia, no debemos pensar que nuestra tarea educacional se termina cuado matriculamos a nuestros hijos en las escuelas.  Si consideramos nuestros esfuerzos de preparar a nuestros hijos para el estudio cómo una inversión en el futuro, la única manera para proteger esta inversión es en estar vigilante y envueltos de lo que está pasando en las escuelas.  Solamente de esta manera podemos estar seguros que nuestros hijos están recibiendo la mejor educación possible y así realizar la debida ganancia.

                               Message to Parents

As the first teacher of your children, you are very important. Certainly you not only prepare your children for their educational development (as it is believed that 50% of a child’s intellectual development occurs before their 4th birthday), yet we must hold their interest for the other 50% of their intellectual development.  Thus parents must not only prepare their children’s intellectual and educational development but also parents must meet their children’s physical and basic needs. 

  As parents, we remember that our educational task does not ends when the child is enrolled in school.  If we consider all our efforts to give our children an education as an investment in the future, thus the only way to protect this investment is to be vigilant and engaged in what is happening in schools.  Only in this way can parents be sure that their children are receiving the best possible education and that the children will receive the benefits of this investment.

Whose child is this?

“Whose child is this?”  I asked one day

Seeing a little one out at play.

“Mine”, said the parent with a tender smile

“Mine to keep a little while,

To bathe his hands and come his hair,

To tell him what he is to wear,

To prepare him that he may always be good,

And each day do the things he should.”

“Whose child is this?”  I asked again

As the door opened and someone came in.

“Mine”, said the Teacher and with the same tender smile

“Mine", to keep just for a little while,

To teach him how to be gentle and kind,

To train and direct his dear little mind,

To help him live by every rule

And get the best he can from school.”

“Whose child is this?” I asked once more

Just as the Little one entered the door.

“Ours” said the parent and the teacher as they smiled

And each took the hand of the little child.

“Ours to love and train together

Ours this blessed task forever.”
