RGCHS
Student to attend West Point

(May, 2007)
-- To most he's known as Frankie, but soon this young man will
make history here in Rio Grande City.
Francisco
Barrera will be the first Rio Grande City HS graduate to attend
the West Point Military Academy. Barrera, who has a long list
in military background, will move to the prep school in July.
In
May the teen was recognized at the Fort Ringgold Campus. The Congressman
Henry Cuellar honored the recent graduate with a special ceremony.
Congressman Cuellar congratulated Frankie for his accomplishments
and briefy spoke to the teen about what will be expected of him
in the future.
"America
must always be ready to protect itself and this is what this man
will do," Cuellar said.
He
also added that Texas has been a great military state that has
produced great men such as Sam Houston and our own hometown hero,
General Ricardo Sanchez. Before the congressman left the podium
he made sure to remind Frankie to leave his footprints so that
doors will be opened for his friends, who one day could join him
in their allegiance to this country.
