Roel A. Gonzalez, Rio Grande City CISD
Superintendent, was selected as the 2008
Superintendent of the Year for Texas by AASA. Gonzalez

AASA representative delivering the good news of this
great ccomplishment. He now will represent Texas in
the AASA’s 2008 National Superintendent of the Year
Program.
“I am truly honored by this recognition, but most
of all this is a great opportunity for Rio Grande
City. I thank my principals, and central office staff
for their support,” said Gonzalez. “But now, we must
continue to maintain our focus and our focus is our
students.”
Gonzalez has been at the helm of the Rio Grande
City CISD since June 2003 and within that time has
managed to assess and address the needs of the
district. His vision for student success is to have
more schools with a lower enrollment in order to
individualize instruction.
Under his unique leadership and his strong
collaboration with the Board of Trustees has allowed
for strategic planning of state of the art educational
facilities that provide an adequate learning
environment for all students. He has also been
instrumental in moving the district from an
