6.1A Compare and order non-negative rational numbers.

1. Order greatest to least.     2 ¼, 2 2/3, 2 ½, 2 7/8

Look at the whole numbers, they are the same. Change the fractions to decimals by dividing the numerator by the denominator or change the fractions so that they have a common denominator.

2 ¼ becomes 2.25,   2 2/3 becomes 2.66,   2 ½ becomes 2.5,   and 2 7/8 becomes 2.875.

2 ¼ becomes 2 6/24,  2 2/3 becomes 2 16/24,  2 ½ becomes 2 12/24,  and 2 7/8 becomes 2 21/24.

Now place in order from greatest to least by looking at the place values in the decimals or the numerator in the fractions.

              Answer:   2 7/8,  2 2/3,  2 ½,  2 ¼

6.1E Identify factors and name the greatest common factor.

      5. What is the greatest common factor of 24 and 36?

Make a T chart and place the number above it and number 1 through 6 down the left side. Now multiply. 1 times what number equals 24, 2 times what

number equals 24, and so on.

           ____24_____                   ___36___

                1       24                        1        36

                2       12                        2        18

                3       8                          3        12

                4       6                          4        9

                5                                   5

                6                                   6        6

          Factors of 24: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24

          Factors of 36: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 36            circle the common factors in each.

Answer: The greatest common factor of 24 and 36 is 12.

6.1D Write prime factorization using exponents.

      6. What is the prime factorization for 72?

Do the factor tree for 72. Every time you come up with a prime number, circle it. A prime number is a number that can only be multiplied by 1 and itself.

Example: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19. When you are finished, write the prime factorization in order from smallest number to largest number using exponents

      when needed.         72

                              8     x     9

                         2  x   4   3   x   3

                              2 x 2

Answer:   2³  x  3²

6.8A/B Area and perimeter

 8. What is the area of a triangle with a height of 6m and a base of 10m?

Use the formula:                            Replace the b with 10 and the height with 6 and multiply them and then divide by 2.   10 x 6 = 60       60 divided by 2 = 30

              Answer: 30

9. What is the area of a trapezoid with base 1 of 10ft, base 2 of 6ft, and height of 4ft.

Use the formula:

Replace b1 with 10 and b2 with 6 and add them. Then multiply that answer by 4. Then divide by 2.

              Answer: 32

10. What is the area of a square with a side length of 6? What is the perimeter?

Use the formula:  A = s x s          A = 6 x 6                               Use the formula: 4s  P = 4 x 6

              Answer: 36                                                                               Answer: 24

6.7 Locate and name points on a coordinate plane.

16. What are the coordinates of point B on the coordinate plane?

Always do the X coordinate first and then the Y coordinate. (Run, then jump).
