Dear Students,
It is indeed my pleasure as your principal at Rio Grande City High School to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to you as we begin the 2011-2012 school year. Teachers and staff are honored, excited, and looking forward to working with you to providea quality education. An education that enables you to have the courage and academic understanding to reach for any goal and overcome any challenge so that you truly realize you have the ability to become anything you dream of. It is our continued mission to provide a nurturing, disciplined, and challenging environment in which you can learn at optimum levels, hence preparing you to be college ready.
Freshmen, although college may seem far off, I encourage you to begin thinking about the process. challenge yourself to rigorous classes, aim to earn the best grades possible and pursue at least one of the many extracurricular activities we offer.
Sophomores, begin to seriously consider college possibilities, take more challenging courses, strive to earn the best grades psossible and increase your involvment in extracurricular activiites.
Juniors, you should beging the college selection process in earnest. You will begin taking standardized tests (SAT, ACT) and with the help of your counselor you will learn much about applying to college. Get to know your counselor well. Continue to work Hard; your academic success is critical.
Seniors, this year is the culmination of your planning and preparation. You will officially apply to colleges, scholarships, financial aid, and make your final college choice. Your counselor can assist you in gathering all necessary information and meet deadlines for the schools to which you are applying. It is time to extend your wings and soar high!
With a commitment, courage and hard work I am convinced every student CAN be successful. Just remind yourself that it takes PRIDE to be successful... Preparation- Responsibility-Integrity-Dedication-Effort. I encourage you to explore your opportunities with enthusiasm and optimism, making this a productive year!
